Kambah Turns 50

This year marks 50 years since the first residents moved into the suburb Kambah.

Since 2023, a small group of residents and artists have been gathering to make plans to mark this anniversary. Call outs have gone out on the Kambah Community Noticeboard on Facebook and this is the current events list.

PROGRAM

August 2024

Sat 10 Aug Family Winter Lantern Walk, Lake Tuggeranong Sea Scouts bring your adults and make a lantern. Then come for a short walk at dusk along the lake with your lantern. Lantern making from 430, lantern walk from 530-6, hot chocolate by the fire in the Scout Hall to follow.

Sun 18 Aug midday Kambah Turns 50 Long Table Picnic Lunch

A byo lunch at the Diversity Hub on Springbett Street where members of the community eat lunch together at a very long table. BYO food, chair, things to eat with and eat off. We’ll be sitting in the garden. There’s a small children’s playground in the garden. All welcome. Children, bring your adults. There will be ‘remembering boards’ to share your memories and reflections of Kambah.

Sunday 25 Aug 930am Arawang Anglican Church, Marconi Cres Kett Street corner, a service for everyone, children very welcome

Sat 31 Aug 10-2pm Classic Car Show for Kambah’s 50th TBC

We’ve learnt that many residents have classic cars. We are working with Canberra car clubs to try to get this off the ground. We think we have insurance, thanks to one of the clubs but we still need a traffic management plan and a venue. If you can help, get in touch kambahturns50@gmail.com

Sat 31 Aug morning at Kambah Village – celebration at the Kambah Inn/Kambah village shops. Be part of the 50 Questions for 50 Years Kambah quiz! Kambah businesses are generously donating prizes for this super fun quiz, to be drawn at this community market – celebration – at – the -shops!

September 2024

Sat 7 Sep 10-2 Kambah self-driving/cycling heritage tour – follow the map to find Kambah knowledge holders. Book your ticket on Eventbrite to join us at 3-4 sites around Kambah – pastoral at the old homestead, natural disasters at the Fire Memorial, housing design at Urambi Community Centre or at the Adventure Playground, landscape planning and urban design and community past, present, future – YMCA at the old homestead, Kambah’s volunteer community.

Sun 15 Sep 6am – Champagne sunrise walk on Mt Taylor with the parkcare group

Sun 15 Sep 9am – Community Planting

ACT Parks, the Office for Nature Conservation, Urambi HIlls Parkcare, Southern ACT Catchment Group, Canberra Ornithologists Group are working together to hold a community planting on the corner of Athllon and Learmonth Drives.

  • Interpretive walk with bird community COG Urambi Hills
  • Learn about water walk with SACT Catchment Group

KAMBAH TURNS 50 – Our sustainable Future 22 Sep

A weekend where the ACT Diversity Hub, COGS, the tennis club and other lease holders in the park on Springbett Street host the community to celebrate and share knowledge about sustainability
